The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support in the Child Development Center (CDC).ResponsibilitiesPerforms a variety of administrative duties in support of the Child Development Center (CDC). Conducts daily safety, fire and health inspections throughout the CDC, noting repair and work requirements as identified by the inspection checklist.Assists in the management and control of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requirements.Computes, collects, records, reconciles, and deposits fees for all child development center programs. Consolidates cashier reports and completes deposit forms and consolidation reports.Establishes, updates and maintains office files and records of various types. Establishes, files, maintains, purges and disposes of office records/files in accordance with regulations and other pertinent guidance.Enrolls children in appropriate child development programs. Ensures parents complete required forms and provides assistance as needed.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsIn order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of child care programs and procedures related to CDC operations. Knowledge of basic arithmetic principles to make routine calculations. Knowledge of the organizational functions and services to answer inquiries or refer to the responsible staff member. Sufficient knowledge of administrative policies or regulations to maintain files or records and perform clerical assignments. Knowledge of a body of rules, procedures, or operations applicable to clerical assignments, such as preparing various routine correspondence/reports, maintaining files/records, and reviewing and processing mail. OREDUCATION: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts. ORCOMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Child Development Center programs and procedures pertinent to the CDC operations. 2. Knowledge of clerical/administrative procedures sufficient to maintain files and records and provide general administrative and clerical support to the Center. 3. Knowledge of computer operations and various types of software to accomplish a variety of office needs. 4. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 5. Ability to learn money handling techniques and procedures. 6. Ability to analyze fee collection procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.EducationIF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: If position has a positive degree requirement or education forms the basis for qualifications, you MUST submit transcripts with the application.
