Job Title: Housekeeper AideDepartment: HousekeepingSupervisor: Housekeeping/Laundry SupervisorJob Summary: The primary purpose is to perform the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department in accordance with current federal state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and to assure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.Qualifications:Education: High school diploma or GED preferredExperience: One year's experience in a health-care facility preferredJob Knowledge: Read, write, and speak English; follow instructions; deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, and visitors; properly use supplies and maintain equipment; maintain appearance of housekeeping areas in a safe, clean, and comfortable manner; work harmoniously with other personnel; follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture, of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc. Must have knowledge of Infection Control; and knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets.Standards: State Department of HealthRESPONSIBILITIES: Perform assigned day-to-day housekeeping functions. - Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and established housekeeping procedures. - Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies. - Assure that established infection control practices are maintained when performing housekeeping measures. - Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms and recreational areas daily as instructed. - Clean, wash, sanitize, and /or polish bathroom fixtures. - Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways. - Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. - Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc. - Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions. - Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators. - Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner. - Report all hazardous conditions or equipment. - Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times, including before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the workday. - Assure that adequate inventories of housekeeping supplies are maintained. - Report burned-out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room-call lights, etc. to the supervisor as soon as practical. - Perform terminal cleaning procedures, as instructed, when a resident is discharged, and/or transferred. - Assure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical. - Follow established fire-safety policies and procedures. - Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested. - Report all accidents/incidents to the supervisor. - Maintain the confidentiality of resident-care information. - Honor the residents' personal and property rights. - Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary/directed. - Turn in all found articles to supervisor. - Attend departmental and staff meetings. - Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc. - Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.Physical activities and requirements (see attached list for more details): Housekeeper Aide must perform all physical tasks (including lifting of 25 pounds) required in normal, irregular or emergency operations to keep the facility running efficiently, ensuring at all times that residents receive excellent quality care. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.d. Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any directione. Standing: Remaining upright on the feet for sustained periods of time.f. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.g. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.h. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.i. Lifting: Raising objects form a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.j. Typing on computer keyboard.k. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.l. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.m. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information thorough oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.The Housekeeper Aide is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.Working conditions for this position are generally inside, with occasional outside work as needed.
